We are witnessing the collapse of the Obama presidency.
The man who entered the White House with such fanfare, praised by Heavenly choruses, has been reduced to a caricature of a bumbling, incompetent president. As we have seen in recent episodes of Saturday Night Live, the art of the Obama joke is effortless – the man is acting out the comedy on a daily basis.
From the sea of corrupt Cabinet nominees to begin the calendar year, to the failures in the arenas of Iran, Afghanistan, abortion, unemployment and even the Olympics that dotted the bulk of the year, down to the chaotic collapse of a Copenhagen conference that was supposed to save humanity from the Roland Emmerich-esque devastation that global warming would soon enact on Earth, the Obama presidency began on a euphoric high and has done nothing but crash deeper and deeper. The looming implosion of an insulting mockery at health care reform appears to have the potential to topple what shards of hope this White House once had at glory.
America is a nation plagued by unemployment, but armed only with a government ready to give money to itself. America needed leaders who could save our citizens from the economic tragedy that we suffered, but instead found only Democratic buffoons eager to unleash a failed liberal agenda at any cost. We prayed for change, but were granted politics as usual in the worst way.
"Give us work to earn an honest wage. Let us keep that hard-earned money to provide for our families. And protect us from those who wish to do America harm."
This is the charge Americans have given government. The Obama presidency has failed on all accounts. We are out of work, heavily taxed ... and some of us may soon have terrorists as neighbors.
From this point on, Barack Obama must chose one of two paths. The first is one of humility. Humble yourself, Obama. Take your nose out of the clouds. Acknowledge your errors, not through a primetime television speech but instead through your actions. Let Pelosi, Reid and their cohorts in Congress know that the time for their games have come to an end. The jig is up and the American people have called them out. You were elected to bring us change, this is your chance. Invite the brightest minds in America to offer their solutions. Do not do so in a snide way. Comments about "grabbing a mop" and cleaning up the mess you found will not restore pride to those who have lost their jobs. Sacrifice your own massive ego and allow those who know much more than you to fix the problems America faces. If, by some grace of God, these steps turn our nation around, then you will know that you have done your part to save America.
The second path, the path the majority of Americans sadly know that you will likely choose, is one of arrogance. Continue to govern in the petty and irresponsible way that you have done so far. Pick fights with cable networks and business organizations. Swear that you're willing to listen to all ideas while simultaneously turning a deaf ear to your opposition. Allow those who speak for you to insult, belittle and degrade the Americans who protest and speak out against the actions of your White House. This path leads to only one destination: failure by America as a nation and an end to your presidency. The notion that Barack Obama is a one-term president is one that more and more Americans are accepting every day. Some experts now feel that there may be little reason for you to even run for reelection based on these past months. For a man who came into office surrounded by comparisons to Abraham Lincoln and Franklin D. Roosevelt, this cannot be the way you want things to end.
But you have chosen this path thus far.
We are witnessing the beginning of the end of the Obama presidency.

Bill,
Great essay, very well said. We are witnessing the collapse of the Obama Presidency.
Our responsibility as Americans is to make sure the country doesn't collapse along with this incompetent President and his administration.
